About the Demon Crew
We are, first and foremost, writers. We are based at De Montfort University, in landlocked Leicester. But that doesn’t stop us making free with the nautical metaphors when it suits our purposes.
Between us, we write all kinds of things: poetry, prose and everything in-between, fiction and non-fiction, lies, truths and half-truths, work that sits happily inside genres or that pays no attention at all to the demands of genre… in fact we love anything that does interesting stuff with words, images and thought.
We’re a sizable crew made up of undergraduates, postgraduates, staff members, stowaways, hangers-on and fugitives from injustice, all of us united by our love of writing. It would be too much to claim that they are responsible, but the crew members who struggly daily to keep the ship from running around, becoming becalmed in the doldrums and such-like, are Dr. Kathleen Bell (swordswoman, poet, writer of decidedly unprosaic prose), Dr. Will Buckingham (philosopher, writer of fictions, reluctant poet, occasional cook), Dr. Simon Perril (poet, critic, lover of strange sounds) and Dr. Jonathan Taylor (poet, memoirist, novelist, composer). In case of shipwreck, they are the ones to blame, or to feed to the sharks.
